Masterclass: De geschiedenis van elektronische klank

June 17th, 2025 19:30 - 21:00

Productiehuis BRUT, Bagijnenstraat 11, Deventer, Netherlands

FREE ENTRANCE (Dutch language, registration required) – Always wanted to know more about the history and background of electronic music? Then this is your chance. This free masterclass is open to anyone curious about the origins of electronic sound and is presented by De Perifeer in collaboration with Nieuwe Electronische Waar.

Expect an educational and inspiring masterclass in the form of stories, visuals, and listening sessions. Featuring well-known and lesser-known figures, instruments, and techniques from the global history of electronic music. From 125-year-old electromechanical instruments in New York to tape recorder manipulations in London. From electronic inventors in Tokyo to sound pioneers in Eindhoven. You’ll both see and hear it all.

The masterclass lasts about 1.5 hours and is divided into three parts:

1. “Machines and Makers” – This section covers the inventors who, from the late 1800s to today, designed some of the most groundbreaking musical instruments.
2. “Studios and Artists” – This part explores the trailblazing studios and artists from the early days of experimental electronic music.
3. “Synthetic Sound in the Netherlands” – Here, we focus on the origins and development of electronic music practices within the Netherlands.

IMPORTANT! Attendance is free, but registration is mandatory. Simply email harco@perifeer.org and indicate how many people will attend. Don’t delay registering so we can plan appropriately based on the number of visitors.

The masterclass is led by Rikkert, founder of Voltmeister. This program is supported by partners BRUT and Stroom.
