FREE ENTRANCE (Dutch language, registration required) – Always wanted to know more about the history and background of electronic music? Then this is your chance. This free masterclass is open to anyone curious about the origins of electronic sound and is presented by De Perifeer in collaboration with Nieuwe Electronische Waar.
Expect an educational and inspiring masterclass in the form of stories, visuals, and listening sessions. Featuring well-known and lesser-known figures, instruments, and techniques from the global history of electronic music. From 125-year-old electromechanical instruments in New York to tape recorder manipulations in London. From electronic inventors in Tokyo to sound pioneers in Eindhoven. You’ll both see and hear it all.
The masterclass lasts about 1.5 hours and is divided into three parts:
1. “Machines and Makers” – This section covers the inventors who, from the late 1800s to today, designed some of the most groundbreaking musical instruments.
2. “Studios and Artists” – This part explores the trailblazing studios and artists from the early days of experimental electronic music.
3. “Synthetic Sound in the Netherlands” – Here, we focus on the origins and development of electronic music practices within the Netherlands.
IMPORTANT! Attendance is free, but registration is mandatory. Simply email harco@perifeer.org and indicate how many people will attend. Don’t delay registering so we can plan appropriately based on the number of visitors.
The masterclass is led by Rikkert, founder of Voltmeister. This program is supported by partners BRUT and Stroom.
In a beautiful garden we’ll perform three sets of 30 minutes each, throughout the afternoon. Come enjoy the blend of nature, sound and a cool refreshment. The garden is located right behind the IJsseldijk, at the river bank on the opposite side of Deventer: Ennestraat 31, 7439 AH Steenenkamer.
“Voltmeister is a German-Dutch group that composes and performs with modular synthesizers. Their instruments look like an impenetrable mountain of cables, button boxes and analogue switch boxes. With these, Voltmeister builds sound cathedrals from spherical resonances and raw industrial sounds.”
No ticket or reservation required. Access based on free donation. In case of bad weather, the concert will move indoors at the same address. Detailed time-slots will be announced soon. We thank our dear friend Carel for inviting us to play in his beautiful garden for www.glurenbijdeburen.nl.
FREE ENTRANCE – Square Wave is a live music event for modular synthesists. Besides exciting performances, Square Wave is about meeting and connecting with fellow synth enthusiasts. Entrance is free.
Square Wave is a live improvisational music event for modular synthesists. Performers will engage in duo improvisation sessions, each lasting ten minutes. Pairings for the duos will be randomly determined through a drawing of lots. Additionally, each duo will be assigned a BPM (tempo) through a random draw, falling within the range of 60-160 BPM. Thus, fate will dictate both a participant’s improvisation partner and the tempo, ensuring each duo performance is uniquely dynamic, exciting, and enjoyable! We’ll do three rounds of four 10-minute performances. So each performer plays three times, over the course of the afternoon.
The performers for this edition are:
1 . Gregor Beyerle
2 . Thomas Margold
3 . Bjorn Lucas
4 . Casper Koomen
5 . Janko Bartelink
6 . Steven Koch
7 . Jostijn Ligtvoet
8 . Moos Dohmen
The venue is at walking distance from the Deventer NS train station. Entrance is free.
We’re going to spend another afternoon doing some fine soldering in Deventer (NL). So register, order a kit for yourself, bring your soldering iron and other tools to join us for an afternoon of crafting. There is room for a maximum of 10 participants. So register in time. You can use the contact button at the top of this page to sign up.
